The picnic is organised by Hot Rods Ltd. The township of Mornington is located approx 60 kilometres south of Melbourne. The beautifully maintained park offers plenty of parking on the grass for the rods with heaps of shade as it is usually very hot. Right on the edge of the bay, overlooking the Mornington Pier, you could not get a better spot. All makes and models, hot rods, customs and street machines are welcome.

When

Picnic in the Park is to be held on the 1st of January every year

Format

This is a very informal and laid back event. The ideal opportunity to wear off that hang-over from the night before and break as many of those resolutions as you can. There's no entries or goodies bag. You can buy your lunch from the Confederates BBQ or walk up the Main Street where there are heaps of shops and resteraunts.

How to get there

From the city, head south on Kings Street, over the Yarra. Change on to Queens Parade, which flows into Nepean Highway, whcih you can follow all the way through to Mornington and turn right at Main Street. Or you can take the freeway by turning left off Nepean Highway at White Street in Parkdale and right onto Bounday raod and then Wells Road, at Edithvale Road turn left then right on to the Mornington Peninsula Freeway. At Frankston continue on the Franskston - Flinders Road, straight on at the road about and on to Moorooduc Road, look for the second turn off to the right to Mornington on the Mornington Tyabb Road, over the Nepean Highway this turns into Main Street.
